At the 11th Conference on Hunting and Gathering Societies (CHAGS XI), which was held in Vienna, Austria, in September 2015, Dr. Jiro Tanaka was presented with the International Society for Hunter Gatherer Research’s first ever Lifetime Achievement Award, along with Dr. Richard Lee (United States) and Dr. James Woodburn (United Kingdom), and all three were made honorary members of the Society. They were recognized for their cutting-edge field surveys and years of research achievements pertaining to hunters and gatherers, as well as their efforts to train the next generation of researchers.
